The Second Empire dressing rooms
Maison Phelippeau was commissioned by the Opéra Garnier under the direction of Pascal Prunet, the chief architect of the Monuments Historiques, to restore the Second Empire dressing rooms of the Opéra Garnier, in particular the draperies and decorations of the Emperor's dressing room as well as the wall hangings, curtains and banquettes of the other dressing rooms.
The spaces decorated for the Emperor and Empress were originally dressed with red velvet drapes and trimmings, double braid and flowing tiebacks, torso and jasmine bangs, as well as rosette braids.
The Phelippeau workshop had the crimson damask of the dressing rooms made by the Maison Prelle - made to measure in the greatest fidelity to Charles Garnier's design - a silk fabric with a satin background and a decoration of matte and shiny effects.
